CZF Kronitz Memorial Scholarship

Applications for the 2026/2027 school are now being accepted.

The CZF/ Kronitz Memorial Scholarship was created in memory of Dr. Leon Aryeh Kronitz to encourage and assist young Canadian Jews who wish to study in Israel . The expectation is that these young Jewish adults will return to Canada and provide service to the Canadian Jewish Community. The funds are provided by private contributors for the benefit of the local community.
Dr. Leon Aryeh Kronitz was a distinguished Jewish educator and community leader. At the time of his death, he was Executive Vice President of the Canadian Zionist Federation, and principal of the Solomon Schecter Academy. Dr Kronitz was a leader in the Labor Zionist Movement, in the Canadian Jewish Congress, an officer of the Canadian Jewish News, and a founder of the Hebrew Cultural Organization of Canada.
This scholarship program is directed towards
1 Recent high school graduates, university students or graduate students pursuing general studies in Israel for a full academic year
or
2 High school or university students interested in attending an academic program for a half an academic year

In order to qualify for the scholarship the following criteria must be met:

In order to qualify for the scholarship the following criteria must be met:
Candidates must be Jewish Canadian citizens or Permanent Residents.
Candidates must be accepted to study in Israel for at least one year in a recognized post-secondary education program.
Candidate must provide three letters of reference:
  1. Academic reference (current principal, professor, program director)
  2. Personal reference (not a family member)
  3. Demonstration of need
Candidate must write a 500 word essay entitled “How this program of study in Israel will advance my professional and personal goals?”

Recipients of the CZF/Kronitz Scholarship will be expected to remain involved with the Canadian Zionist Federation following their return to Canada. Involvement may include support of the Canadian Zionist Federation or one of its member organizations and leadership in Zionist activities.
Over the years, scholarship recipients have greatly appreciated the assistance provided them to study in Israel. The experience of living and studying in Israel has encouraged them to reaffirm their commitment to Israel, Education, and Jewish Communal Work.
Since the CZF Kronitz Memorial Scholarship’s inception over one thousand students have received scholarships.

The Canadian Zionist Federation’s charitable arm is the Hebrew Culture Organization of Canada, which is a registered charity in Canada and is able to offer CRA compliant receipts for your donations. 
Funds received are used to enhance the Kronitz Memorial Scholarships.
